The Patrick J. Tiberi Leadership Institute began over a cup of coffee . . . or maybe several cups.
In 2018, Pat and then-Powell Mayor Jon C. Bennehoof would meet regularly for coffee. Over time, the discussion would turn to leadership issues and a simple question: Where was the next generation of leaders coming from?
Over time and coffee, the idea of a leadership institute evolved.
After a few more meetings, The Patrick J. Tiberi Leadership Institute was formed as a 501.c4 foundation to increase the number of qualified and competent Republican individuals in public service.
(It should be noted that Pat vigorously opposed having the Institute after him, but Jon eventually wore him down.)
The Tiberi Institute focuses on such values as integrity, public service, commitment to one’s community and family – the very values that Pat lives by today and during his time in Congress.

The Meaning Behind Our Logo
The sextant is a navigational tool that measures elevation using angular distances. A sextant is used to determine the altitude in the sky of the sun, moon, or other celestial bodies relative to the horizon. That information is then used to pinpoint latitude and longitude, or location on the globe relative to the equator. Thus, a sextant is useful in determining where you are as well as mapping your future path.
This is the reason the sextant was chosen as the symbol for The Patrick J. Tiberi Leadership Institute. Tycho Brahe’s sextant, specifically, was chosen as he was the most accurate astronomer of his time. Brahe developed his large sextant (just over 5 feet across), which is represented on the Institute’s logo, lapel pin, and class journal.
Tycho Brahe, born Tyge Ottesen Brahe (December 14, 1546 – October 24, 1601), was a Danish astronomer who was brought up by an uncle who had kidnapped him. Brahe defied both his natural and foster parents to become a scientist rather than a nobleman at the Royal Court.
Brahe was a larger-than-life aristocratic astronomer whose observations became the foundation for a new understanding of the solar system and ultimately gravity. His observation at a young age of a partial eclipse of the sun in 1560 seems to have enabled Brahe to find his “true north” in astronomy. His measurements of stellar and planetary positions achieved unparalleled accuracy for their time. He was the last major astronomer to work without the aid of a telescope and his observations formed the basis for Johannes Kepler’s laws of planetary motion. Brahe’s work in astronomy is influential even to this day.
